On behalf of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology (EACTA) and the Local Organising Committee we cordially invite you to attend the EACTA Annual Congress 2017 from 19th to 21th of April 2017 in Berlin, Germany.

As the field of cardiovascular medicine is rapidly evolving, our profession is continuously challenged – not only by the progress in cardiac surgical techniques but also by the increasing demands of interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic intensive care medicine.

In line with these developments, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology has become even more attractive, but also more demanding: we are no longer recognized solely as anesthesia providers, but as members of a team of dedicated specialists involved in the comprehensive periprocedural surgical as well as interventional treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.

Comprehensive Cardiovascular Cardiothoracic Care (C4) will thus be the thematic background of the 32nd Annual EACTA Congress in Berlin. Lectures, workshops, problem-based learning discussions, and meet-the-expert sessions will cover all aspects from pre-procedural decision making and optimization to intra-procedural management and post-procedural care as well. However, beyond the thematic sessions presented by a faculty of internationally renowned speakers there will be ample time to discuss the results of recent scientific work during oral or poster presentations, to meet and talk with experts in the fields of cardiac, thoracic and vascular anaesthesia and critical care medicine, and of course to meet colleagues and friends from all over the world.

In addition, Berlin itself is always worth a visit. Apart from the historical sites of the German capital and the still visible signs of a city (and a country) that was split by the Wall not so long ago, there are only a few European cities that offer a comparably broad range of museums, exhibitions, theatres, and multiple varieties of entertainment. These experiences beyond science are facilitated by the Congress venue being located within a walking distance to the “Kulturforum Berlin”.

Cancellation policy and processing of personal data

Full cancellation of your participation must be emailed to the EACTA 2017 Congress Secretariat - MCI Nordics at confirmation@mci-group.com. Amendments should be made via the Portal if you have created a Portal account, if not, please notify the Congress Secretariat by email.

Collection of personal data

Your personal data will be kept also after the conduct of the congress, for statistical purposes and for the possible dispatch of information on future congresses within the relevant field. Your personal data may also be published in a list of participants, to be distributed to the congress participants. The information may also be distributed to certain companies and associations, operating in the relevant field, for possible distribution of information and offers directly from them.

Visa and Official Letter of Invitation

Visa regulations depend on your nationality and country of origin. We suggest that you contact your local German Embassy or Consulate for instructions on visa regulations and application procedures. The participant is responsible for obtaining a visa if necessary. Official letter of invitation can be requested when registering. Please note that the letter of invitation will not be sent before the participant has registered and paid the registration fee.

Abstract notifications: Tuesday, 10 January 2017 Guidelines:

• Abstracts must be written in English. Use British spelling, e.g. anaesthesia, oesophagus, crystalloid. However, you can easily eliminate many typing errors and misspelling by using the spell- check feature of your word processing software.
• The title field must only include the title of your abstract. The maximum characters allowed including spacing is 100 characters or 20 words.
• The maximum length for the abstract body is 2800 characters (including spaces, one figure or one table) or 450 words.
• The text of abstracts must include the sections: Introduction: Method: Results: Discussion: References

• The preferred font is Arial with a size no smaller than 11 point (9cpi). Note that the accepted abstracts will be reduced to approximately 80 % of the original size when they are printed. Smaller size will result in unreadable text.
• Use the SI-system for all units of measurement (e.g. ml, kg, kPa) with the exception of mmHg for blood pressures. With two items or more, negative exponents should be used, e.g. ml min-1.
• The use of abbreviations should be minimized, and they must be defined the first time they are used.
• One figure or one table within the borders of the abstract is allowed. Figure and tables should be aligned with the text. Text in the figures or tables will also be reduced to 80%. Be sure that all text in the figure or table is readable. Ensure that lines on figures are thick enough to bear reduction for printing. All figures must be in black-and-white.
• You may use one but not more than three relevant references, numbered in brackets in order of appearance in the text and listed at the end of the text. They should have the following sequence: author(s), title, journal (as abbreviated in Index Medicus), year, volume and pages. For example: Latimer RD. Inhaled nitric oxide in the management of pulmonary hypertension after mitral valve surgery. Br J Anaesth 1994; 72: 185-9.
• Key Words are not needed.

Abstract Evaluation Criteria

Each abstract will be assessed by at least three reviewers, according to the following scoring grid:

• Scientific relevance
• Methodology
• Clear language - poor English will be sent out for revision
