Dear colleagues

On behalf of the Instituto Nacional del Tórax and University of Chile it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 5th version of the INTERNATIONAL BLENDED-LEARNING DIPLOMA OF PERIOPERATIVE AND CRITICAL CARE ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY, to be carried out online between May to December 2023 (400 hours), followed by a period of practice of 40 hours to be carried out in Chile or Spain.

The online period is divided into five modules (1: Basic principles, TTE and TEE; Echo 3D; 2: Ventricular function; 3: Aortic and mitral valves; 4: Pulmonary hypertension, endocarditis, valve prostheses, masses and tumors; 5: Echo in critical emergency cases, general critical care and cardiovascular critical care, echo in non-cardiac surgery, pericardial and aortic disease, and echo for study of congestion and perfusion) plus a Final Diploma Project consisting of the resolution of a complex clinical case based on an echocardiographic study.

Aim: Interpret and use echocardiography for the management of critical care patients, heart disease patients and during the perioperative period, achieving the skills that allow directing acute clinical management in specific situations.

Directed for anesthesiologists, intensivists, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and related specialties. Language: Spanish.

This 2023 we begin the 13th year of teaching echocardiography in this modality, continuing the first eight (2011–2018) that were carried out in the form of “Refresher Course”.

Until now there are more than 270 doctors from different medical specialties and from more than 13 countries from Latin America and Spain who have completed this training.
